The Town of Waldheim has begun planning for its 100th anniversary which will take place Aug 3rd – 5th 2012. We are calling our celebration “100 Years in the Forest” Waldheim Centennial. We are inviting all current and former residents to a special homecoming and anniversary celebration. Invite your family and friends to help celebrate.
We are raffling off two local hand made wood pieces.
1st prize: Table made by Harry Harder from wood that is from Waldheim’s First School in 1912.
2nd prize: Vessel turned by Vern Greene made from oak & manitoba maple which were supplied by Vern and purple heart wood, zebra wood & the padauk wood which was supplied by Reg Douglas.
They are both on display at the Waldheim Town Office. Draw to be made at the celebration. Tickets are available from committee members and at the Town Office.
Our tentative schedule is as follows:
Friday:
Ball games - Old Merchant team will be playing a ball game – contact Irvin Dirks at 945-2253. This is a good time to gather and visit with old friends and family.
A slow pitch tournament is being planned for the next day – contact Ron Schultz at 945-4900.
Saturday:
Fireman’s pancake breakfast.
Parade – Anyone interested in participating in the parade, please contact Cori Ann Lund at 2012waldheimcentennial@hotmail.ca .
Taste of the Valley – Lots of vendors to choose from.
Street fair – With live entertainment from the local area. Activities are being planned for all ages.
Horticultural Show and an Arts & Crafts Show at the Waldheim Rec Center. Contact Edna Friesen for the Horticultural Show entries at 945-2368. Contact Lorina Janzen for the Arts & Crafts entries at 945-2193.
Garden Walk – this will begin in the afternoon from 2pm – 4pm. Anyone interested in displaying their garden in the walk, please contact Olinda Pauls at 945-5512.
Old Rural School gatherings will be held at the school and for more information please contact Iona Greene at 945-4828.
Banquet at the Waldheim Jubilee Centre. Adults -$5 and Children ages 6 & under – free. There may be a limited amount of tickets available. Please purchase your tickets ahead of time, so we may let the caterers know the amount of people attending. Thanks! Tickets will be available from committee members and at the Town Office.
Show & Shine – will be held at the ball diamonds in the Valley Regional Park and you may contact Lanny Schmidt at 945-2047 to enter your vehicle.
Youth Events are being planned too.
Sunday:
Church service in the park.
There will also be a plaque dedication & closing ceremonies program.
