Hello from Public Works, I have put together a bit of information for our town residents and maybe try to answer some of your questions on how our town is dealing with the new challenges facing us in 2020.
Public Works personnel will do their best to operate with care and to do our part in this anxious time. We have protocols in place for work separation and water plant operations to help us continue to do our job for the town to the best of our abilities.
- SAM WENDLAND HERITAGE PARK
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, please do not use the park playground to prevent the spread of Covid19 on the playground structure surfaces through contact transmission.
We know it sucks that the kids cannot use the sliding hill, playground structures and play, but let’s each try to do our part.
- SPRING THAW
You would have observed Public Works personnel clearing ditches and digging out culverts this last week in anticipation of spring thaw. Also, widening roads to protect our pavement sub grade from hydraulic damage from the thaw. We do try to be considerate of the town property on your frontage from roadside to property line, we want it to look nice (and thank you for your investment into its care) but sometimes it’s hard to see what’s under all that snow, and the equipment might gouge the dirt on a corner. Please keep toys, shovels and winter fun stuff out of the ditch area for now so we do not hit it by accident. Thanks!
We urge you to prepare your yard if you have known problems due to the spring thaw. Clear the snow away from your houses, and allow for the water to flow to the ditches or its normal route. Make sure your down spouts are free, in place and not iced up. If you are concerned about snow removal the town can be hired to move some off your property. If you are concerned about an area in front of your property and it looks like we have missed it and the water is backing up let us know by calling the town office. We do patrol daily during the melting times but sometimes we miss stuff.
- WATER TREATMENT
In accordance with the Water Security Agency (WSA) and Public Health regulations we currently test our water for Chlorine levels daily and log the results, as well as send routine samples in once a week as required for testing to prove the water is safe. Samples are taken from various locations throughout the town.
We have received a detailed email from our governing body, The WSA on our response to Covid19, it has good hygiene and sanitation practices as well as some background info:

- WHAT IS PUBLIC WORKS DOING THIS SUMMER
The town has received funding through the Federal/Provincial BCF/PTIC fund for a new water treatment plant and infrastructure upgrades. We were working hard as a town on engineering and the design/tender phase. With the onset of personal distancing and business closing we have no idea what this will look like now and how it will affect the timeline. We will try to keep the town website up to date on this progress. Click on the link: http://waldheim.ca/blog/category/service-alerts/
- IF I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY WATER OR SEWER WHERE DO I GO
There is information on our website here under the utilities section.

I will try to keep this info updated, thank you for helping to make our town a great place to live.
